Maison Marie Claire Korea’s November 2023 cover story, “Suri in Paris”, visits the apartment of curator and collector Suri Park, founder of Maison Suri, in the 8th arrondissement. She runs it as a salon in the spirit of Gertrude Stein’s, where art, design and conversation share the same rooms. Among the works on her walls is Gali’s Alua (2023), from Tengri. Light Works.
In October 2023, during Paris+ par Art Basel, the apartment also hosted Abundance, Suri’s exhibition of women artists, which included Gali’s work.
The magazine describes her abstract images as “essentially connected to the spiritual energy of the steppe” (translated from the Korean).
Artist’s note
Alua (2023) is from Tengri. Light Works. Like the rest of the series, it was painted slowly, in long sessions, without a plan, and draws on Tengri, the steppe’s ancient way of seeing the world. It is good to see it in a home rather than a gallery.
